Longest Night Service

Friday December 21st, when the sun sets, will be the longest night of the year. “Longest night” may also describe the feeling that many of us have during this season. The dark nights of winter may reflect the darkness we feel in our present situations, in our memories of the past, or in regard to who or what we’ve lost.

In this Advent season as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior, we also celebrate the body of Christ around us which comes together in times of celebration and in times of hurt and pain.
For some, Christmas Day is the most difficult. For others, the most difficult time may be Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve.

Join us on Friday December 21st at 7:00pm. We invite you to come and listen, pray, and sing. We invite you to come with all your pain and anguish and we invite you to offer your pain to the Christ child.
Come and join us as we sit with one another, offering each other the same love that sent Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Refreshments will be available following the service.

Two Services this Thursday 12/20/2012 @ 6pm

- Durham’s annual memorial service to remember those who were homeless or formerly homeless and died over the past year will be held at Urban Ministries of Durham’s courtyard, at 410 Liberty St. The public is invited to participate. The service usually lasts for about 30 minutes.

- An interfaith candlelight vigil will be held at the Durham Central Park (where Farmers Market is held – 534 Foster St. near corner of West Corporation St) to honor and mourn the victims and survivors of Newtown tragedy. The vigil is sponsored by Parents of Murdered Children, Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham, Durham Congregations in Action, and local congregations.
